 A Sailor's Suicide  (Santiago, Chile)

The Pump man,

didn’t take to shore the cargo,
he never came back from Santiago.

The sailors
started heaving the lines,*                      *mooring lines
they had the loss in their minds.

Santiago,
          the port where all began,
and the vessel
       sailed without a Pump man.

It was believed he had an affair
and could not withstand
                     that she didn’t care.
